πŸ“– Session Recap

πŸ“œ Session Overview

At the edge of the mountain, the companions looked down upon a valley drowned in unnatural darkness. Far below, cages were carved into the stone walls while hundreds of cloakers clung to the cliffs like restless shadows. An elemental airship rested beside the settlement, its crew unloading still more prisoners beneath the glow of a floating purple polyhedron. At the valley's heart, a goblinoid giant more than twenty feet tall lounged upon a stone throne, lifted a cage filled with captives, and poured them screaming into its mouth. Their questions about this place had been answered. There was nothing left to investigate before deciding whether these people deserved liberation. The only question was how many could be saved.

While the others considered the cloakers, the airship, and the hundreds of lives caught between them, Zar'keth transformed his driftglobe into the heart of a dangerous new weapon. He encased it within an enlarged shatterbox and fashioned it to erupt when touched by any living creature other than himself. The plan was simple in theory: descend upon their dragons, unleash the light among the slavers, and strike the giant before it could devour anyone else. Hans, already terrified by the height of the cliff, blindfolded himself and clung to Zar'keth as the party launched into the darkness.

Their approach remained hidden only for a moment. Bells rang throughout the valley, the walls began to flutter, and scores of cloakers peeled away from the cliffs. As the creatures surrounded the descending party, their terrible moans rolled through the air, filling several riders with supernatural terror. Bolts streaked upward from the airship and the camps below, striking at dragons and riders alike. Yet even through the fear, Sorina called upon her divine power and surrounded her companions with hope, strengthening their minds against the cloakers' cries while tethering herself securely to her dragon.

Still carrying Hans, Zar'keth hurled his creation toward one of the fires below. The shatterbox struck the earth, broke apart, and released a brilliant explosion that annihilated the slavers gathered around it. Against the valley's smothering darkness, the blast burned like the sudden birth of a small sun. Landing among the dead, Zar'keth drew nearby metal into a four-foot effigy surrounding the driftglobe, its crown opening into the shape of a radiant solar disc. With light still being dragged toward the purple structure at the valley's center, that improvised shrine became both a challenge to the darkness and the foundation for something far more destructive.

Free of his blindfold but now stranded amid the battle, Hans planted his feet beside the shining effigy and filled the valley with the low, ominous voice of his instruments. He bent the surrounding winds into curses that disrupted the enemy's attacks, protected those fighting beside him, and began gathering the moving air into a tightening cyclone. His first battle beside the party became an immediate trial by fire, fought beneath circling cloakers while arrows and bolts hammered the earth around him.

Above, Warwick Willows was engulfed by the flying predators. Cloakers tore into him and his dragon until blood ran from both, but he answered with rays of fire and lightning that spiraled through the dark. Even when forced to the ground and left bleeding beneath the swarm, he continued hurling magic upward. When one stubborn cloaker refused to die, Hans ended its rampage with the gentle rhythm of his rainstick, dropping the horror into an enchanted sleep. Warwick Willows, exhausted and furious, reached into the magic surrounding the sleeping creature and twisted its slumber into a final nightmare. The cloaker thrashed once, its tail struck the ground, and then it moved no more.

While the battle raged in the sky, Broj descended upon the giant. Growing to meet its impossible size, he and his dragon crashed into the creature with enough force to drive the towering enforcer backward into the valley wall. Stone buckled, cages bent around its body, and for the first time the giant was forced to rise from its throne and face something it could not casually devour. Broj battered it relentlessly, carving into its legs and covering its lower body in blood while the giant retaliated with curses, hurled stones, and waves of psychic exhaustion.

Elsewhere, Aedric Vale approached the floating purple polyhedron responsible for drawing light and souls into itself. Every captive consumed by the giant left behind a spectral remnant, and each spirit was pulled screaming into the ancient device. Aedric Vale examined it with every discipline he possessed, but the object was older and stronger than anything he could easily identify. It could be touched and made to spin, yet its central axis remained fixed against every attempt to move it. When Aedric Vale reached through the space between realms to understand it, his consciousness slipped into a place where he did not belong. Something brushed against his mind before he was thrown back into his body, certain only that the polyhedron was ancient, immensely powerful, and filled with countless imprisoned dead.

Sinora drove her blade into the structure, but even a weapon capable of cutting through nearly anything stopped against its surface. Through the cracks she and Sorina heard the trapped spirits clawing for freedom before being dragged back inside. Realizing that strength alone would never break it, the sisters acted together. Sinora used her blade and Realmstrider power to force open the smallest possible fracture while Sorina poured her divine essence into the imprisoned dead, turning their desperation into a force that could erupt from within.

Radiant red fire coiled around the polyhedron. A beautiful woman's voice whispered through the cries of the trapped souls, and then Sinora drove her blade down. The valley vanished within a red explosion that burned white at its center. The magical darkness was torn away, revealing the stars for the first time β€” but Sinora, Sorina, and Aedric Vale disappeared with the device.

Aedric Vale found himself standing beside his dragon within an endless white emptiness. There were no leylines, no wind, and not even the sound of his own heartbeat. When a dark void appeared in the distance, it did not wait for him to approach. It engulfed him, leaving him falling through absolute darkness before a pair of enormous, orbiting eyes opened before him. Believing he had finally found the presence he had been seeking, Aedric Vale addressed it, but received no answer. The eyes merely watched as distant visions of the battle flashed through the void.

The sisters were cast into a different place: a burning landscape of blackened stone, red earth, choking ash, and unbearable heat. Separated at first, neither could feel her dragon, her magic, or the other's mind. Sinora felt a slender hand with long black nails settle upon her shoulder, preventing her from turning to see what stood behind her. Sorina, meanwhile, watched a woman approach across the flames with an army of twisted infernal shapes marching behind her. Eventually the sisters were brought together, and in that dreadful place their first relief was simply finding one another alive.

The smiling woman came to them through the stench of ash and rotting death. She placed one hand upon each sister and wrapped her fingers around the backs of their necks. Their brands burned beneath her touch as she instructed them to call upon her when the time was right. Then the world fell away. Sinora and Sorina were returned to the valley two hundred feet above the ground, alongside Aedric Vale, and all three plummeted from the darkness before crashing into the stone below. The purple polyhedron reappeared above them, slowly spinning once more. Their attempt had briefly pierced its power and freed the valley from its shadow, but the ancient prison had survived β€” and its darkness soon began gathering again.

While they were gone, the giant entered a murderous rage. It grew still larger, seized a cage with a living prisoner trapped inside, and brought it down upon Broj again and again. Flesh and blood flew through the bars as the captive was pulverized and Broj was driven to the edge of death beneath more than a hundred points of punishment. Even as his strength failed, Broj refused to retreat. He stared upward through the blood, holding the giant's attention for one final moment.

That moment was enough for Zar'keth.

Using the solar effigy he had built from the driftglobe and scavenged metal, Zar'keth mounted his gauntlet to the structure and transformed it into an immense arcane cannon. He poured every remaining Γ†ther Charge into the weapon while his companion helped draw in the light around them. As the giant lifted the cage to deliver the final blow, Zar'keth unleashed everything.

A beam of concentrated force crossed the valley and punched through the giant's chest. The cage slipped from its hand. The enforcer toppled backward with an enormous hole burned through its body, dying just before it could crush Broj again. Zar'keth abandoned the cannon and rushed to his fallen companion while Hans and Sorina spread healing through the shattered party.

The crew of the airship attempted to flee, but Hans had already turned the wind against them. His cyclone swept fire into the elemental's binding ring, burning through the prison that held it. When the flames began consuming the creature as well, Hans, aided by Aedric Vale, reached into the storm and pulled the fire away like molten cloth. The elemental vanished the moment the final flame was removed, leaving the ship without its enslaved heart. It tilted violently, throwing burning slavers from its deck before crashing back into the valley.

When the last enemies had fallen, the true cost of the settlement revealed itself. Scores of prisoners remained locked within cages along the ground and inside the surrounding cliffs. Most were women and children, bruised, starved, filthy, and barely clothed. Many recoiled from even a gentle touch. Some remained huddled in the corners of open cages because captivity had taught them to fear every command, even one offering freedom.

The cage doors were too strong for Broj to tear apart, so he reached through his connection to the land and remembered the sands of Amonkhet. Beneath his hand, iron bars softened and collapsed into grains. For hours, Broj and Aedric Vale worked through exhaustion to open cage after cage while Sinora gathered the survivors, found blankets and clothing, and tried to assure them that no one would force them back inside. When the others became distracted by the spoils of battle, Sinora reminded them sharply that defeating the slavers meant nothing if they forgot the people they had come to save.

The fallen giant carried no crown. Its only meaningful possession was a Belt of Stone Giant Strength, and removing it caused the enormous body to shrink to little more than three feet tall. It had not been the ruler of this place at all, merely an enforcer or watchman. The realization cast a longer shadow over the distant city β€” and suggested that something far worse still waited beyond the valley.

The damaged airship proved to be a dedicated slave transport. Its lowest deck was filled entirely with cages, while maps and ledgers in the captain's quarters recorded routes, supply stops, and repeated deliveries of captives to this valley. The party recovered money, tools, clothing, a magical tree-feather token, and an enormous enchanted ballista packed in a reinforced crate. Zar'keth eagerly assembled the weapon, only for its first test shot to erupt with such force that the backlash knocked several companions from their feet and blasted apart a section of the valley wall. Half-deafened but impressed, the party unanimously decided to keep it.

Not every discovery was so welcome. While rearranging their recovered treasures, Zar'keth touched the massive teardrop-shaped crystal taken from beneath Hearthglass. His body froze as visions tore through him: a small golden-eyed svirfneblin reclining upon cushions, a colossal creature crowned by ten eyestalks, and a chorus of voices, songs, and unnatural clicking. Hans knocked his hand away before the vision could pull him deeper. Only then did they notice the eye moving within the center of the crystal.

The prisoners eventually pointed the party toward the giant's throne. Strange writing had been carved across its back, and immense fingerholds were hidden beneath its base. Working together, Broj, Aedric Vale, and Zar'keth lifted the stone seat until hidden mechanisms caught its weight. Beneath it waited a staircase descending more than a hundred feet into the mountain and a seemingly endless tunnel running directly toward the distant slave city. Iron rings lined its walls at regular intervals, revealing that it was no secret escape route. It was another path for moving prisoners.

The survivors recoiled when anyone suggested sheltering below. Those taken into that passage had either suffered the same fate they had witnessed at the throne or disappeared into the darkness and never returned. With the tunnel leading toward the true city and the ancient polyhedron once again swallowing the valley's light, the companions chose to remain near the crippled airship. The freed captives were given its remaining beds, blankets, and shelter while the party prepared to guard them through the night.

They had slain the giant, broken the airship, freed its elemental, and opened the cages β€” but they had not destroyed the prison holding the dead, nor reached the power commanding the valley. Beyond the hidden passage waited an entire city built upon chains. Behind Sinora and Sorina's brands waited a smiling woman and her infernal army. Within the crystal from Hearthglass, an eye continued to move.

And beneath the stolen throne, the road into the darkness remained open.

βš”οΈ Key Events

  • The Descent: The party launches from the cliff's edge on dragonback into the supernatural darkness of the valley. Bells ring, cloakers peel from the walls by the score, and bolts rake upward from the airship and camps below. Sorina's divine aura of hope shores up her companions' minds against the cloakers' terrifying moans even as the swarm closes in.
  • Zar'keth's Shatterbox: Zar'keth, with Hans clinging blindfolded to his back, hurls a modified shatterbox containing his driftglobe into a slaver fire. The blast annihilates the gathered guards and burns like a small sun against the magical dark. Landing in the carnage, Zar'keth draws scavenged metal into a four-foot solar effigy around the driftglobe β€” a challenge to the darkness and the seed of something far worse for the giant.
  • Hans Holds the Line: Separated from his dragon and fighting on foot for the first time alongside these companions, Hans plants himself beside the glowing effigy. His instruments bend the wind into curses that disrupt enemy attacks, and he begins slowly gathering the valley's air into a tightening cyclone while bolts and arrows hammer the ground around him.
  • Warwick vs. the Swarm: Engulfed by cloakers, Warwick Willows and his dragon are torn bloody but refuse to yield. When one cloaker survives everything thrown at it, Hans drops it into enchanted sleep with his rainstick. Warwick Willows reaches into its slumber and twists it into a killing nightmare β€” the creature thrashes once and dies.
  • Broj Meets the Giant: Broj grows to match the giant's size and crashes into it with his dragon, driving it backward into the valley wall hard enough to buckle stone and crush cages. For the first time, the twenty-foot enforcer is forced off its throne. Broj hammers it relentlessly while it retaliates with hurled stones, psychic exhaustion, and increasingly savage rage.
  • Aedric Vale and the Polyhedron: Aedric Vale investigates the floating purple polyhedron drawing every soul the giant devours into itself. It resists his every attempt to move or identify it. When he reaches through the space between realms to understand it, something inside brushes against his consciousness and hurls him back β€” the device is ancient, immeasurably powerful, and filled with the imprisoned dead.
  • The Sisters Break the Prison: Sinora's blade cannot cut the polyhedron but can force the thinnest fracture. Sorina pours her divine essence through that crack into the imprisoned souls, arming their desperation. Together the sisters shatter the device in a red explosion that burns white and tears the magical darkness from the sky β€” revealing the stars above the valley for the first time. Sinora, Sorina, and Aedric Vale vanish with the blast.
  • Three Places at Once: Aedric Vale arrives in an endless white void, then is engulfed by darkness and confronted by a pair of enormous orbiting eyes that watch him silently. Sinora and Sorina are thrown into a burning hellscape of blackened stone, choking ash, and unbearable heat β€” separated, stripped of their magic, unable to feel each other's minds or their dragons. Their first relief, in that dreadful place, is simply finding one another alive.
  • The Smiling Woman: An infernal woman approaches through the ash and flames with an army of twisted shapes at her back. She comes to both sisters, places a hand on each, wraps her fingers around the backs of their necks. Their brands burn under her touch. She tells them to call upon her when the time is right β€” then returns all three companions to the valley two hundred feet above the ground. They fall and crash into the stone below. The polyhedron reappears above them, slowly spinning once more.
  • The Giant's Rage: While the sisters and Aedric Vale are gone, the giant grows larger still and seizes a cage with a living prisoner inside, using it as a bludgeon against Broj over and over. More than a hundred points of damage in moments. Broj is driven to the absolute edge of death β€” and holds the giant's attention for one last second.
  • Zar'keth's Solar Cannon: Zar'keth mounts his gauntlet to the solar effigy, transforming it into an immense arcane cannon. He pours every remaining Γ†ther Charge into the weapon as the giant lifts the cage for a finishing blow. The beam crosses the valley and punches a hole through the giant's chest. The cage falls. The enforcer topples. It dies before it can crush Broj one final time.
  • The Airship Falls: Hans's cyclone sweeps fire into the elemental's binding ring aboard the fleeing airship. When the flames begin consuming the elemental itself, Hans and Aedric Vale reach into the storm and pull the fire away. The elemental vanishes free. The ship, without its enslaved heart, tilts and crashes back into the valley, burning slavers from its deck.
  • Freeing the Cages: Hundreds of prisoners β€” mostly women and children β€” remain locked inside. Broj reaches into his connection to Amonkhet and remembers sand; beneath his hand, iron bars dissolve into grains. He and Aedric Vale work through exhaustion opening cage after cage for hours. Sinora reminds the party sharply that the battle means nothing if they forget who they came to save.
  • The Giant Was Not the Ruler: The giant carried no crown. Its Belt of Stone Giant Strength, once removed, caused the enormous corpse to shrink to three feet tall β€” a watchman or enforcer, not the city's master. Whatever commands this valley still waits in the dark beyond the hidden passage.
  • The Crystal's Eye: While sorting recovered treasures, Zar'keth touches the teardrop crystal from beneath Hearthglass. Visions seize him: a golden-eyed svirfneblin on cushions, a ten-eyestalk creature of colossal size, a chorus of songs and clicking. Hans knocks his hand clear. They notice, for the first time, the eye moving inside the crystal.
  • The Stolen Throne: Prisoners point the party to the giant's throne. Hidden fingerholds beneath its base allow Broj, Aedric Vale, and Zar'keth to raise it β€” mechanisms catch its weight and reveal a staircase descending over a hundred feet, and a tunnel running directly toward the slave city. Iron rings line its walls at regular intervals. It was never a secret passage. It was another road for moving prisoners.

  • Warwick Willows was engulfed and forced to the ground, continuing to fight with magic even while bleeding beneath the swarm
  • Hans put a surviving cloaker to sleep with his rainstick after everything else failed to kill it
  • Warwick Willows used Dream magic on the sleeping cloaker to end it β€” twisting enchanted sleep into a killing nightmare
  • Zar'keth's shatterbox annihilated the slaver group around the fire in one blast, removing a significant portion of the ground-level threat immediately

The Giant Enforcer β€” Valley Floor

Enemies: One goblinoid giant enforcer, twenty feet tall at base, growing larger still during the fight

Outcome: Killed by Zar'keth's solar cannon. A hole burned through its chest. It died moments before delivering what would have been a killing blow to Broj.

Notable Moments:

  • Broj grew to match the giant's size and crashed into it with his dragon, driving it into the valley wall β€” the first time the creature was off its throne
  • The giant entered an escalating murderous rage when its blows failed to stop Broj, growing larger still and using a prisoner-filled cage as a bludgeon
  • Broj absorbed over a hundred points of damage across the final exchange, holding on through sheer refusal to retreat
  • Zar'keth converted the solar effigy into an arcane cannon, pouring all remaining Γ†ther Charges into one shot
  • The beam crossed the valley and punched a clean hole through the giant's chest β€” the cage fell from its hand mid-swing

  • The ship, without its heart, crashed back into the valley and finished burning on the stone

πŸ‘₯ NPCs Encountered

The Giant Enforcer

Role: Valley Watchman / Enforcer (deceased)

Twenty feet tall, seat of stone, fed on caged captives before a bonfire. Carried a Belt of Stone Giant Strength that inflated its true size β€” without it, the corpse shrank to three feet. No crown, no insignia of rule. A weapon pointed at the valley, not its master. Whatever truly commands this place remains undiscovered.

The Smiling Woman

Role: Unknown Infernal Entity β€” connected to the Twins' Brands

Approached Sinora and Sorina across a burning hellscape with an army of infernal shapes behind her. Placed one hand on each sister, fingers around the backs of their necks. Their brands burned under her touch. She smiled throughout. Instructed them to call upon her when the time is right β€” then returned them, and Aedric Vale, to the valley two hundred feet up. She did not introduce herself. She did not need to.

The Orbiting Eyes

Role: Unknown Presence β€” encountered by Aedric Vale in the void

After the polyhedron's destruction sent Aedric Vale into an endless white emptiness, a dark void engulfed him and presented a pair of enormous orbiting eyes. They watched distant visions of the battle but did not speak. Aedric Vale addressed them, believing this might finally be the presence he has been searching for. No answer came.

The Freed Prisoners

Role: Survivors β€” captives of the valley

Hundreds of people, mostly women and children, bruised and starved. Many remained in open cage corners because captivity had taught them to fear every command. Some recoiled from gentle touch. They knew about the throne. They knew what was beneath it. They refused to shelter there β€” not because they couldn't, but because they had seen what the passage takes.

πŸ” Important Discoveries

The Purple Polyhedron β€” Prison of the Dead

The floating purple structure at the valley's center is ancient beyond easy identification. It drew light toward itself and consumed every soul the giant devoured, pulling the spectral remnants of the dead inside. Aedric Vale could not move it, could not fully identify it, and when he reached through the space between realms to understand it, something inside it reached back. Sinora and Sorina managed to briefly break it open β€” but it survived the explosion and reconstituted. The dead inside clawed toward freedom before being dragged back. The prison endures. And it is gathering darkness again.

The Giant Was Not the Ruler

The enforcer that sat the throne of this valley carried no crown, bore no title, and shrank to the size of a halfling when its Belt of Stone Giant Strength was removed. It was a weapon β€” a warden pointed at the cages. Whatever actually commands this valley, commands the airship routes, commands the passage beneath the throne, has not yet shown its face. The danger here is not behind them. It is ahead.

The Airship as Slave Transport

The vessel's lowest deck was entirely cages. Its captain's quarters held maps and ledgers documenting regular routes, supply stops, and repeated deliveries of captives to the valley. This was not a warship pressed into ugly service β€” it was purpose-built for this. Other ships may follow the same routes. Other deliveries may already be in transit.

The Tunnel Beneath the Throne

The giant's throne concealed a staircase descending over a hundred feet and a tunnel running directly toward the slave city. Iron rings line the walls at regular intervals β€” not for climbers, but for chaining prisoners. This was never an escape route. It is another road for moving people. The freed captives refused to shelter there. They knew what the passage had taken. They had watched others disappear into it and not return.

The Crystal's Eye

The massive teardrop-shaped crystal recovered from beneath Hearthglass has been traveling with the party. When Zar'keth touched it while sorting loot, visions hit him: a golden-eyed svirfneblin reclining on cushions, a colossal creature crowned by ten eyestalks, a chorus of voices and unnatural clicking. Hans knocked his hand clear before the vision could deepen. They noticed the eye moving inside the crystal only after the fact. It had been watching the entire time.

The Smiling Woman and the Brands

The infernal woman who met Sinora and Sorina in the hellscape is connected to the marks on their necks. She found them easily, separated and stripped of power, in a place they were thrown by accident β€” and she smiled the entire time. The brands burned at her touch. She has a use for them. Whatever she is waiting for, she is patient enough to have already prepared.

πŸ’° Loot & Rewards

  • Belt of Stone Giant Strength: Recovered from the giant enforcer after its death. Its removal caused the enormous body to shrink to three feet β€” the belt was inflating the creature's true size.
  • Enchanted Ballista: Enormous, packed in a reinforced crate aboard the airship. Zar'keth assembled it immediately. Its first test shot knocked several party members from their feet and blasted a section of the valley wall apart. Unanimously kept.
  • Tree-Feather Token: Magical item recovered from the airship's stores.
  • Money, Tools, and Clothing: Recovered from the airship and the slaver camp. The clothing was redistributed to the freed prisoners immediately.
  • Maps and Ledgers: The captain's quarters held detailed records of slaver routes, supply stops, and delivery schedules β€” intelligence on the wider network running captives into this valley.
  • The Freed Elemental: The air elemental bound inside the airship's ring was freed when Hans and Aedric Vale pulled the fire from its prison. It departed without ceremony. It was not a reward. It was a debt repaid.

✨ Character Moments

Zar'keth

From the edge of the cliff before the descent, Zar'keth quietly converted a driftglobe into a weapon of mass annihilation. On the valley floor, surrounded by burning bodies, he built a solar shrine from scavenged metal. In the battle's final seconds, with Broj bleeding out beneath the giant's shadow, he converted that shrine into a cannon and killed the enforcer with one shot. Every Γ†ther Charge spent. Every preparation made on instinct, alone, in the middle of a battle. This is what Zar'keth does when the math becomes desperate.

Broj

Broj grew to match a twenty-foot giant, crashed into it with his dragon, and refused to back down as it raged. He absorbed over a hundred points of punishment β€” including a cage full of dying prisoner used as a bludgeon β€” and held on long enough for Zar'keth to fire. Then, when the battle was over, he spent hours turning iron bars to sand with his hands, working through exhaustion cage by cage. He did not leave until every door was open. The fighting part of the night took less out of him than the hours afterward.

Sinora and Sorina

The sisters chose to strike the polyhedron together with full knowledge that they could not identify what it was or what breaking it would cost. Sinora forced the crack. Sorina fed the imprisoned dead the power to break free. The device survived them β€” but in the moments of the explosion, the stars came back. They paid for that with a trip to a burning hellscape where something very old was waiting to tell them it has a use for them. They held hands the moment they found each other in the ash. Neither of them said a word about what was behind Sinora before she turned around.

Aedric Vale

Aedric Vale spent the battle examining a device that was older and stranger than anything his training had prepared him for. When he reached through the space between realms and something inside reached back, he did not flinch β€” he catalogued it. He was then thrown into a void, confronted by enormous orbiting eyes that would not speak, and returned to the valley by falling two hundred feet. He hit the stone, stood up, and immediately began helping Broj open cages. Whatever he saw in that void has not been spoken of yet.

Hans

His first real battle beside this party, and he spent it on foot, exposed, beside a glowing shrine in the middle of a valley full of cloakers and archers. He controlled the wind well enough to drop a flying horror into sleep with a rainstick, built a cyclone that eventually crashed an airship, and then reached into fire alongside Aedric Vale to free a bound elemental. He had no dragon beneath him, no familiar ground, and no way out if things went worse. He stayed. The party noticed.

Warwick Willows

Engulfed, driven to the ground, and left bleeding under the swarm β€” and he kept hurling magic upward from the dirt. When Hans gave him one sleeping cloaker to work with, Warwick Willows reached into its dreams and turned them lethal. Exhausted, bitten, and furious, he killed the thing from the ground with nothing left but spite and a cantrip. That counted for a great deal.

Sinora (Liberation)

When the fighting ended and some of the party's attention drifted to loot and salvage, Sinora did not let the moment pass quietly. She reminded everyone, clearly and directly, that they had come here to free people. The giant was dead. The cages were still locked. The job was not finished. Her voice cut through the post-battle noise and pulled the group back to what mattered. The prisoners who would not leave their cages had someone standing outside them, unhurried, asking nothing in return.

πŸ–ΌοΈ Session Images

πŸ“ DM Notes

This was the eight-hour session promised after the valley reveal in Session 55. The structure was built around escalating simultaneous pressures: the cloaker swarm, the giant, the polyhedron, the airship β€” all running in parallel so no single player was idle. Zar'keth's solar cannon was an improvised player solution that worked better than anything prepared. The giant's "not the ruler" reveal was deliberately late β€” let the party celebrate killing it before the crown-less corpse reframed the entire victory. The sisters' infernal sequence and Aedric Vale's void encounter were kept deliberately opaque; neither entity introduced itself and neither event was explained. The crystal with the moving eye is a slow-burn hook that has now been in the party's possession for several sessions unnoticed. The freed prisoners deliberately do not fully recover β€” the session ends with survivors who cannot yet believe the doors are open. The tunnel is the session's true ending: not the dead giant, but the road still running into the dark beneath his stolen throne.

🎭 Looking Ahead

The giant is dead. The airship is wreckage. The freed prisoners sleep in stolen beds while the party keeps watch over a valley that is still not safe. The purple polyhedron turns overhead, gathering its darkness again.

Below the stolen throne, a staircase descends over a hundred feet into the mountain and opens onto a tunnel running directly toward a city that commands everything seen tonight. Iron rings line its walls β€” not for climbers.

A smiling woman touched Sinora and Sorina's brands and told them to call her when the time was right. A pair of enormous eyes watched Aedric Vale in the dark and said nothing. A crystal taken from Hearthglass has an eye inside it that has been watching this party for weeks.

The road is open. The city waits. And whatever rules it has not yet sent anything worse than a watchman.
