Ovek

Ovek was born in the shadowy depths of the Underdark, in the sprawling city of Menzoberranzan. The city, a labyrinth of twisting tunnels and grandiose chambers, was a bastion of Drow power and intrigue. Ovek's early life was one of servitude and subjugation, born into the house of Auvryndar, one of the noble houses that constantly vied for supremacy.
From a young age, Ovek served under Matron Ulvyl, a young but ambitious noble of House Auvryndar. Despite the rigid structures and societal norms that dictated that Drow males were not to practice magic, Ovek and Ulvyl developed a bond. Their friendship blossomed in the shadows, as they shared stolen moments and secrets about the arcane arts.
As the years passed, Ovek and Ulvyl's relationship deepened. They became confidants and lovers, exploring the arcane arts together in secret. Ovek learned to manipulate shadows and conjure minor illusions, while Ulvyl's power grew in the dark arts of necromancy. Their bond was a dangerous secret, one that eventually caught the attention of Ulvyl's parents.
When Ulvyl's parents, Lord Razareth and Lady Xandra, discovered their daughter's secret teachings and her forbidden love for Ovek, they were furious. Such a relationship was a disgrace to their noble house. They decreed that Ovek be executed to preserve their family's honor.
On the day of his execution, Ulvyl made a desperate attempt to save him, but Ovek, knowing the consequences, begged her to let it happen. He believed in the promise of their love transcending this life. Ovek was executed, his body discarded into the Abyssal void, but his soul was not at rest.
In the abyss, Ovek lingered in torment, the darkness pressing in on him until he heard a familiar voice—a whisper from Ulvyl, calling him back. Her voice was a beacon in the darkness, guiding him back to the world of the living. When Ovek opened his eyes, he found himself in Ulvyl's chamber, his body no longer his own. His skin was pale, and his brand of servitude was gone. Ulvyl had resurrected him using forbidden magic, but he was now a Changeling, able to shift his form at will.
With the guards breaking down the door, Ovek had no choice but to flee. He escaped through the window, crashing through the rooftops until he reached the surrounding caves. The darkness was impenetrable to him now, as his darkvision was lost with his Drow form. As he despaired, Ulvyl's voice echoed in his mind once more, guiding him through the darkness.
“Come with me and I can help you see,” she whispered. Moving forward, he felt the darkness cling to him, wrapping around him like a protective cloak. Suddenly, he could see, even better than before. He continued through the caves, avoiding the guards until he reached a hidden alcove.
In the hidden alcove, Ovek found a small dais with a statue of a skeleton wrapped in stone bandages, clutching a book and a necklace. The voice guided him again, “Come with me and take what you see.” Ovek took the book and the necklace, and the statue began to shift and move, revealing a beautiful elven woman with long black hair and deep purple eyes.
“Come with me and do you like what you see?” she whispered. Ovek, captivated by her beauty, nodded and stepped forward. As he did, the necklace wrapped around his neck, binding him to the spirit. She promised to make him free again if he served her. With no other choice, Ovek agreed.
Following his encounter with the spirit, Ovek wandered the Underdark, gaining power and knowledge. He eventually stumbled upon the cursed lands of Shadowvale, a place teeming with dark magic and undead creatures. Here, Ovek established a small base in the ruins atop a hill. He created a ritual spawning point for skeletons that would wander down the hillside, exploding upon contact with any intruder. This method of protection allowed him to remain safe from the minor dangers of Shadowvale.
Ovek's new existence was one of constant vigilance and dark study. He became a Warlock Necromancer, using his powers to control and empower his undead minions. The spirit who had resurrected him continued to guide and teach him, their bond growing stronger with each passing day.
