Barbarian Subclass: Path of Gravity
Barbarians who walk the Path of Gravity turn their Rage into a crushing field of attraction. Steel bends, feet slide, and the air itself feels heavier as they pull foes inward and pin them to the ground.
Quick Navigation
Gravity Save DC
Some of your Path of Gravity features require a saving throw. The saving throw DC equals:
8 + your Proficiency Bonus + your Strength modifier
Level 3: Gravity Well & Gravity Pulse
Gravity Well
While your Rage is active, you emit a gravitational field in a 10-foot Emanation that moves with you (this is your Gravity Well).
Difficult Terrain: The area of your Gravity Well is Difficult Terrain for creatures of your choice. You can change which creatures are affected at the start of each of your turns (no action required).
Gravitational Pull: At the start of each of your turns while your Rage is active, you can target up to a number of creatures equal to your Proficiency Bonus that you can see within your Gravity Well. Each target must succeed on a Strength saving throw against your Gravity Save DC or be pulled up to 10 feet straight toward you (ending in an unoccupied space). A target that succeeds on the save isn't moved.
Gravity Pulse
You can release a sudden burst of gravitational pressure that slams creatures to the ground.
Action Economy: When you enter your Rage, you can use this feature without expending a Bonus Action. On subsequent turns while your Rage is active, you can use this feature as a Bonus Action.
Choose up to a number of creatures equal to your Proficiency Bonus within 10 feet of you. Each target must make a Strength saving throw against your Gravity Save DC. On a failed save, a creature takes 1d6 + your Strength modifier force damage and falls Prone. On a successful save, it takes no damage and doesn't fall Prone.
Usage Limit: You can use Gravity Pulse a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest.
Level 6: Orbital Body
Your gravity bends trajectories and punishes flight.
Orbital Cover: While your Gravity Well is active, creatures of your choice within it have Half Cover against ranged attacks made by attackers outside the Gravity Well. (Half Cover grants a +2 bonus to AC and Dexterity saving throws.)
Ground the Airborne: The first time on a turn that a creature with a flying speed or the ability to hover enters your Gravity Well, or starts its turn there, it must succeed on a Strength saving throw against your Gravity Save DC or be unable to fly or hover until the start of its next turn. If it is airborne when this happens, it falls.
Level 10: Event Horizon
Your gravity becomes an anchor point in the world.
Immovable: While your Rage is active, you are immune to forced movement.
Compression Feedback: While your Rage is active, when you take damage, you can use your Reaction to increase your Gravity Save DC by 1 until the start of your next turn. This bonus can't raise your Gravity Save DC by more than 2 above its normal value. This increase must be used before the results of a saving throw are declared.
Expanded Well: Your Gravity Well increases to a 20-foot Emanation.
Level 14: Singularity
Your gravity becomes punishingly dense, crushing the vulnerable and amplifying falls.
Force Resistance: While your Rage is active, you have Resistance to force damage.
Crushing Prone: Once on each of your turns while your Rage is active, when a creature of your choice starts its turn Prone within your Gravity Well, you can force it to make a Strength saving throw against your Gravity Save DC. On a failed save, it takes 3d10 force damage and can't stand up until the start of its next turn. On a successful save, it takes half as much damage and can stand up normally.
Heavy Landing: When a creature within your Gravity Well takes bludgeoning damage from falling, it takes extra bludgeoning damage equal to your Proficiency Bonus.
Design Notes & Tips
The Path of Gravity transforms a Barbarian into a gravitational anchor, creating dynamic battlefield control through difficult terrain, forced movement, and gravitational effects. Key features scale with Proficiency Bonus and Strength modifier for thematic synergy.
- Action Economy: Gravity Pulse can be used as a Bonus Action after the initial Rage entry, making it consistently available during combat
- Crowd Control: The combination of Gravitational Pull and Difficult Terrain provides exceptional control over enemy positioning
- Anti-Flight: Ground the Airborne provides valuable utility against flying enemies, particularly in campaigns with aerial threats
- Tanking: Event Horizon's immunity to forced movement and Singularity's damage resistance emphasize the Barbarian's durability
- Synergy: Prone creatures benefit greatly from Crushing Prone, encouraging tactical use of Gravity Pulse for setup
