Description
Sentient Mimics are a rare breed of mimics that have developed a higher level of intelligence and self-awareness. Unlike their mindless counterparts, they possess the ability to think critically, communicate with other creatures, and even develop relationships. However, they still retain their natural instincts to deceive, ambush, and consume.
These mimics have a flexible, sticky body that allows them to mimic a variety of objects with surprising accuracy. Despite their fearsome reputation, Sentient Mimics are not inherently evil; they can choose their own path in life, whether it be adventuring, trickery, or simply hoarding treasures.
In their natural form, Sentient Mimics appear as amorphous masses with a rough, bark-like exterior. They can, however, alter their appearance to blend into their surroundings or disguise themselves as more appealing objects.
Ambusher Mimics are swift and deadly, using their ability to quickly change form to surprise their foes. They excel in situations where they can catch their enemies off guard.
Hoarder Mimics, on the other hand, are more resilient and have a deep-seated desire to collect and protect valuables. They often find themselves drawn to adventuring for the treasures they can claim and keep hidden within their bodies.

Cultural Background
Sentient Mimics often originate from areas with a history of adventurers or treasure hoards, such as ancient ruins, dungeons, or cursed treasure vaults. They are seen as unpredictable and potentially dangerous by other races, but those who have encountered a Sentient Mimic with a sense of morality might find a valuable ally. Due to their mimic nature, they are often drawn to places where they can hide in plain sight, whether to protect themselves or to gather information unnoticed.
